Something in you keeps coming back to writing.

Are you ready to give it space?

The Online Writing Studio is for you if you’re a woman (or identify as a woman) and are feeling a pull toward writing and are ready to spend more time doing it.

This is also for you if you:

  • may’ve been feeling this draw toward writing for a long time, maybe even for your whole life, and for whatever reason, you’ve been having trouble making space for it; you’ve been pushing it aside for other things, other people

  • may already be doing some writing, but you’re looking for something more; more space, inspiration, or community around it

  • feel a longing to express yourself, to uncover your thoughts, stories, memories; you have a feeling that doing so will unlock something inside

  • hold an idea (or several) for a story, or for your own story, that you’d like to try to tell, it’s a small flame inside that will not leave you alone

  • understand that the more voices that are being silenced, the more we must speak out

This is a place with inspiration, structure, and community for women to finally write what’s been calling them.

Writing to me is about being alive. It’s about self-expression and self-empowerment. And I believe that giving voice to and sharing our stories is one of the ways we change the world.

Regular, Daily Space for Writing

There’s a daily (Mon-Fri) hour of co-writing, offering us a consistent space and gentle accountability.

Monthly Generative Workshops

We meet twice a month for two hours for a facilitated writing workshop, offering us writing inspiration, sharing, and affirmation.

A note about the daily co-writing…

You do not have to attend every day unless you want to.

When setting this up I was aware people have appointments, obligations, jobs, things! So there is no, I mean zero, feeling bad if you can’t make all or even most of the times.  Being in the energy of this amazing community will feed you in-between writing times.

Coming every day is great; coming as often as you can and want to is just as great.

This is your studio to make how you want to support you and your writing best.

An experiment

I came upon this idea as a way to meet a need that I have myself.

It seems like I’ve always wanted to write, and I haven’t always written. The truth is, I feel happy when I’m writing. So happy.

And, I’m the first to admit I’ve struggled to make time for it. Even now when I have a more flexible schedule and am by all accounts writing more than I used to, I still cycle in and out of days or even weeks where I’m not writing as much as I want to be.

So, a few weeks ago, I had an idea. I do very well taking classes, showing up for scheduled programs and various commitments and such, so I wondered: Could I create something similar that I myself need? Could I invite others to help make the space work for me? Might they want something like this too?

I floated the idea out to a few people. And to my delight, many have responded and said that yes, they too want to be writing more often. So we moved ahead and tried it out for a month. I decided I loved it - I’ve been writing more than ever, my notebook is filling up, and I’ve enjoyed the happy sense of writing with others. I was excited to learn that others have found it valuable too!

So we’re carrying on!

I see this as a potential ongoing monthly program so we can all make some progress on our projects and creative work, and for now, I’m keeping things simple: daily co-writing and monthly opportunities to write together in community.

Here’s where this could go - possibilities for the future…

I’m keeping the initial iteration of this simple for me and for others, but I do have some ideas about what might want to happen if everyone wants to keep going…

 A few ideas include:

  • Weekly shared intuitive energy readings with a focus on creativity, so you can more clearly tap into the energy of the creative whole

  • Guided meditations for the inner writer, so you can more easily remember your wiser, deeper self when facing your writing practice and/or projects

  • End of month open Q&A/mentoring where you can bring your questions, so you have a place to get support, learn from others, and feel connected on the journey with like-minded women

  • Popup writing sessions/sprints to oracle cards (I have a lovely set from Corporeal Writing) or journaling prompts to offer fresh inspiration and generative writing

  • A monthly workshop focused on craft or some specific element of writing (poetry playshop, mining memories, automatic writing, etc.) so you can continue to explore and experiment with craft

  • Possible move to a platform where there can be community and communication (not Facebook) so the community element can blossom

  • A portion of the proceeds going to support marginalized voices, so that your presence offers a tangible contribution to making the world a better place.

This is not an exhaustive list, by any means. I never have a shortage of ideas! And I’d see any continuation and additions being done over time and in response to the needs and interest of the group.

Lovely Words from Others

“Before starting the writing group, I wondered if I had anything to write about and would it be worth reading out loud. Diane’s prompts generated endless ideas and got the creative juices flowing. The supportive structure of the sessions made sharing our work aloud painless and something I grew to look forward to. I now have a consistent writing practice and find joy and clarity from it everyday.”

 —Anne, United States

“I feel much more easeful with my writing after our time together. This experience really helped bolster my confidence as a writer. It took the pressure off of having to hold my own container, so that I could just focus on the most important thing: writing. Knowing that these parameters free the writer within, I am encouraged about the path that lies ahead for my writing.”

—Alex

“Before the writing group experience, I only dreamt about writing. I had pretty negative thoughts/feelings about my skill, topics, and style. I didn't trust myself or the process. So I didn't write. Now I know that when I simply start writing, something will pop up. I can recognize the inner senses of when I'm on and off track ... and I know that ALL of that is part of the process. I'm also able to recognize the thoughts that keep me from writing and can better follow my instincts.”
