Diane's Place is an online space for women who want to write
This place might feel like home if you…
Know that writing can feel like magic
It doesn’t happen all the time, or even very often. But you know that when you’re writing, it can feel like magic. Time slips away and words flow through you to the page, and sentences spin and weave together. When you put down your pen and see what you’ve written, you feel delighted.
Carry a sense of knowing that you're here to write and express something meaningful in the world
Even if your mind keeps saying you don't know what it is or that it's simply too impossible to be real, in quiet moments, you’re certain you’re here to write. You have a still-small flame inside that will not go out, and when you do write, you feel like you’re doing exactly what you’re supposed to be doing.
Struggle to make time for yourself and/or your writing
You have so many things to tend to – a job, house, work, travel or children. Even if you've recently found more space or are in a more flexible season of life, you still find it hard to make time to write. Part of you can’t understand why, it — because when you do show up for your writing, joy rushes in, time bends, and you wonder why on earth you ever stayed away. And then somehow, in the rush of daily life, you forget and long stretches of time pass before you write again.
Sometimes worry that time is slipping away
You've been holding this dream of writing for so long. You’ve spent a long time (months, years, or even longer) remembering how much you love writing and then forgetting, being unable to do it consistently. You’re starting to wonder if it's still possible.
Long for a world that doesn't exist yet, but should
You want a world that values everybody – everybody- regardless of their beliefs or the color of their skin. You want a world where people can love who they love and have access to opportunities regardless of their ability or social class. You want to live in a world with clean water and clear air, a world without hunger and without war.
You want a world where we care for one other, where neighbors check in on each other, bring pots of soup or extra blankets. You want a world that prizes beauty and truth of all kinds, and one that allows space for softness and sorrows.
You want a world that recognizes the Love that weaves everything together.
Understand that the more voices are silenced, the more we must speak out.
When you see individuals and groups like immigrants, the elderly, LGBTQ people, people of color, trans people, for example, being targeted by fear, hatred, and nationalism, something in you rises up in defiance.
You lend your voice in support of those who cannot speak, because you know that, like Fannie Lou Hamer said, "nobody's free until everybody's free."
Consider yourself a little bit (or even very) mystical
Maybe you love noticing synchronicities, signs from the universe or from a world you can’t quite see but somehow know exists. You love oracle cards, tarot reading, listening to your intuition, or playing with energy. You have or want to develop a deeper spiritual practice. This may be something you’re only now discovering about yourself, or you may’ve known this for some time. When someone mentions communing with the divine or their guides and asking for direction, you think “Of course!”
Love learning
You've been insatiably curious your whole life. You love learning about new ideas, different ways of seeing the world, and diverse cultures and ways of being. When something new catches your attention (did you know that the Moroccan word for home is pronounced ‘dar’?) it sparks connections that you love exploring.
Might also have a teeny, tiny (and only slightly obsessive) love of good paper, stationery supplies, fountain pens, and/or inks
You might also have too many journals (not that there really is such a thing as that imo 😁)
Does this sound like you?
You might resonate with some or many of these qualities. If so, I think you’ll love it here.
