I attended an extraordinary writing workshop a week or so ago, and what I wrote felt like it wanted to be shared. Maybe you'll find something in it or it will offer you a glimpse of something you need today?
In response to Rosemary Watula Trommer’s poem: When They Asked Me, “What Is Your Current Hyperfixation”
Is it still books and papers and pens? The word latest doesn't seem to apply here. Those are evergreen, like pine needles nestled under icy caps all through winter...
In truth? My latest fixation is hearing how others are bringing their work or their words into form. How they're deciding—just like that— to travel to Italy, a dream long held, or how they're coordinating a family group meeting on a Dublin live stream, making their elderly neighbors marvel. How they're getting clear on their work, digging in. How they're not letting logical constraints constrain.
I love hearing them realize something so obvious we could all see shining under a thick cloak, but they’re only discovering it now and sluffing off that weighted wool. Their newfound conviction vibrates through virtual spaces, reverberating through my heart. They will bring their goodness and their whole selves, wide open and vulnerable, to the world because they can.
Because they want to.
I love hearing from them, huddling close, fanning the sparks their stories give me. Blowing ever so gently, like a kiss, hoping the tiny flame grows, hoping that I may do the same.

What about you? What's your latest fixation?
Coming Home to Yourself
Free Online Event April 19th
Join me on April 19th for a free (with optional donation) online gathering for anyone yearning for a few moments of looking inward, of sanctuary — not to turn forever away, but as a way to rest, recharge, and emerge, heart open to what is being asked.
Our time together will be a blend of meditation, spoken word pieces from my book of poetry, Desert Heart, and reflective writing invitations, all spent in the warm company of others.
You do not need to purchase Desert Heart to attend. 50% of all donations will support Haven Watch, a women-founded organization in Minneapolis supporting ICE detainees upon their release; the balance supports my work bringing more women's voices into the world.
I'd love to welcome you there.
