Writing Intuitively

Letting yourself go on the page

I like to say that writing intuitively is setting out on a ship without a compass.

You may have a word, a writing invitation, or an idea of what you to write about, but when your pen touches the page, you let the words carry you to where the sea wishes. You may end up writing about something completely unrelated to where you started, the invitation or spark being only the point of embarkment. Or, you may anchor a few hundred meters out and then dive to surprising depths. Later you come to surface a little bewildered but knowing you’ve found something luminous.

Writing intuitively asks that you give up your ideas of what, or how, you’re supposed to write and instead follow your inner writer, listening or feeling or sensing the words seconds before they appear and then placing them on the page.

It’s only when you’ve done this—let go on the page— that you can step back and see what you’ve written. See where you’ve actually traveled to.

Then with a bit of space, you know what it is you really wanted to say.

Where will you let your writing take you this week?

Writing Invitation

I encourage you to open your notebook and answer this week's writing invitation with whatever wants to come through.

Online Writers’ Studio for Women

If you’re interested in receiving more writing invitations and having a place to write on a more consistent basis, you can find a new one every day and the space to see where it takes you in my daily co-writing sessions, which are just one part of the Online Writers’ Studio for women. The Studio also has regular writing workshops, weekly intuitive energy readings, and meditative writing sessions.

Otherwise, come back next week, and I’ll share another one.
