Flickering flame lights your path

Brief seconds of darkness

Your foot falters

Where?

How?

Listen, she whispers

Listen

You quiet your beating heart

The wind stops rustling

Maple leaves stick to sidewalks,

glossy

reflecting pinpricks of light

Listen, she whispers

Listen

You hear a longing

A yearning for color, word-jewels on paper,

space

Yet,

you hesitate, suspended in the dark

A crow calls

Go, she urges

Go

We’re waiting for you
